Dyer Star Theory

Richard Dyer

Richard Dyer is an English Academic who is holding professorship at Kings College London in the Department of Film Studies at this present time. Dyer specialises in cinema, the relationship between entertainment and representations of race, sexuality and gender and he also specialises in the queer theory.

The Dyer Star Theory splits into three sections:

  • The star as a commodity

  • The star as an ideology

  • The star as a construction

 â€‹

The star as a commodity is where stars are produced to create a profit off certain things such as merchandise like t-shirts, bags and posters. Record labels make similar stars at a certain time as that's the trend and will make them some money.

An example would be that there are many boy band groups that are similar like One Direction and The Vamps.
