Prop Analysis

You can see in the video on the right and the two pictures below that the indie folk band Mumford & Sons have a very simple music video with minimal props. They also have a variety of instruments in their music videos as well as different lighting. There are fairy lights and main spotlights that focus on the band members and the rest of the scene is dark. The instruments that are used are quite old instruments and you would associate them with the indie folk genre. Also the video is set in an old looking barn which they could be trying to connect with the audience and put a message across that good music doesn't always need a video with expensive things to have an effect.

In the video to the left and the pictures above we have Passenger's music video 'Heart's On Fire'. In this video there are a few more props than in the first one we analysed. Within this music video a few props that i picked out was a shovel, a book, the trees around him and the instrument he is playing which is a guitar. The first prop i noticed was the shovel, this could mean anything starting with is the person in the video trying to cover up something or does he want to help put something at peace. The shovel is a personal prop as whatever you do with it, it is controlled by the person holding it. The book i picked out showed that the man was placing a flower in it, which is done when you want to remember something for a long time and keep it somewhere safe. So this shows that it is personal as it must mean something special to the person who has done this. The music video is set in an open space, which looks like a forest, this setting is in most indie/folk music videos as it suits that style of music with the instruments they use. The instrument used in this video is a guitar this shows that Passenger is talented and wants to put across his music to everyone else.
